Electro swing, that a thing?

Posted 22/2/2016

So I have recently discovered a music style called electro swing. Also, first blog post!

You know that slider on Youtube, the auto-play next recommended video one? Yeah, that one. I usually turn that off, I'll decide for myself what to watch/listen to next, tyvm. But sometimes, when I feel adventurous and uninspired at the same time, I let Youtube surprise me. This time, I think I started on an Avril Lavigne song, and let the auto-play do its thing. An hour of passively listening to music later I noticed that there had been a change in style. The songs playing on my headphones were suddenly very, happy, energizing, up-tempo.

It was electro swing, music from the 1920s with some electro-meddling to drag it into the 21st century. No idea that that was thing, but it was damn cheerful. I decided to listen to some more of it. Tried out some Speakeasy Three, Parov Stelar and Alice Francis, but ended up mostly listening to Caravan Palace, a Parisian electro swing band. The video embedded below is them performing their song "Suzy" live. Now normally, I wouldn't recommend a live version of a song, but with Caravan Palace you can just sense how much they enjoy performing live on stage. If you like the song, I can recommend "Lone Digger", "Rock it for me", "Dramophone" and "Jolie Coquine".
